Death of a mother | Sarah Riggs after November 1850 (Age 46 years) Note: Some show POD as Missouri City, Fort Bend Co, Texas, USA in NOV 1850. This city is now a southern suburb of Houston. It seems strange to have her enumerated in Bates Co, Missouri in NOV 1850 and just days later have her die hundreds of miles away. We have no information on any move. We think it more likely that she died in Missouri City, Clay Co, Missouri (Missouri City was originally named Atchison and formally adopted the name by the end of 1857). |

Note | ELIAS THOMAS COE was born in 1804 in Allegheny County, PA. Taken to Indiana as a child, he was granted 40 acres in Warrick County, October 28, 1835. He served on the Warrick County Grand Jury for the September Term in 1832. He was evidently well thought of by neighbors and friends as be was named administrator of the estate of James Drake, probated in 1834. He was given the opportunity to the place on which Drake had lived in case those named in Drake’s will were deceased and relatives were gone. Elias was to have all the hogs and corn left with J.K. Harper. The will was signed by Zahena Lovejoy, Edward Baker and James Arnold (Warrick County, IN, Wills, Book 1).
Elias Coe and his wife purchased land in Pike County, IN, March 21, 1859, the first purchase being 40 acres from George Hart for $325, and the second purchase of 40 acres in July of 1859 from Martin Burch for $500. The land lay northwest of Coe Station (now Coe) and is recorded in the Pike County Recorders Office. Elias was said to be living with daughter Elizabeth Black when he died in 1882. He is believed to be buried in Black Cemetery in Pike County. He married July 14, 1830, in Warrick County, IN, Rachel Arnold, born 1805 in Muhlenberg County, KY. |
