Funeral Services Will be Held at Home
at One-thirty O'clock Monday.
----------
Edward R. Moberly, one of Shelby county's best citizens, died at the Major Hospital Friday evening at four o'clock after a long illness. Several weeks ago Mr. Moberly went to Florida to spend the remainder of the winter but growing the worse instead of better he returned home and went to the hospital for treatment.
Mr. Moberly was born in Union township on June 26, 1863. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Moberly, pioneers of Shelby county, people who were truly "the salt of the earth," and their children followed in the footsteps. For a number of years Thomas Moberly held the office of justice of the peace, that position in those days being one of great dignity as well as responsibility, such as the faith of the people in Mr. Moberly that the people of his township did not want any other person to preside in that court so year after year they re-elected him. He was not only honest and fair but he disliked trouble and dissention. It was his rule if suit was filed that he would bring the persons together and if possible have them compromise their differenced and in this be most generally succeeded. Ed Moberly carried all the traits of his father and lived in peace with his fellowman.
On January 14, 1886, Mr. Moberly was married to Miss Carrie Yarling, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Yarling, also Shelby county pioneers, people of the same high character as Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Moberly. They established a home three miles north east of Shelbyville, where they lived happily, contentedly and prospered. Their only child, a son, died July 25, 1907. Deceased was one of six children, all of whom are dead with thee exception of Mrs. Simeon Farthing, who lives immediately east of the Moberly school house, within sight of the home of her childhood.
While Mr. Moberly was exceptionally attentive to his business, that of farming, he found time for other things. He was a member of Shelby Lodge No. 28, Free and Accepted Masons, Shelby Council No. 3, Baldwin Commandery No. 2 Knights Templar of which he was a past commander. He was also a Thirty-second degree Mason and a member of the Indianapolis Shrine. In these various degrees of Masonry Mr. Moberly found much pleasure. He was also a member of Shelby Lodge No. 39 I.O.O.F. of Shelbyville.
Early in life, Mr. Moberly united with the Baptist church in which organization he was a faithful as well as a consistent member. He lived an honest, straightforward, God-fearing life, leaving much behind in good works that will be recalled with pleasure as the years pass.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the home. Rev. I. C. Overman, pastor of the First Baptist church officiating. Interment will be at Forest Hill.
