Note:
OBITUARY THE SHELBYVILLE DEMOCRAT Thursday, February 5, 1903 ------------ Peter S. Monfort, of the Cherokee Nation, Indian Territory, died on January 30, 1903, aged seventy-four. Mr. Monfort was born in Warren County, Ohio and came to Flat Rock in Shelby County, in 1840, where he married in succession three wives, Martha McClure, Sarah Avery and Sarah Embry, the first two of whom died on Flat Rock. He moved to Kansas in 1880 and from there subsequently into the Indian Territory. Peter Monfort was well known to the earlier settlers of Noble township, and he was one of those jolly fellows that kept everybody in good humor where he happened to be. The writer will never, no never forget Peter S. Monfort. His death carried away another one of the early landmarks of Noble township. Submitted by Barb Huff
Note: Peter died in what was to become Washington Co, Oklahoma, either in or near the town of Copan where his son Wilson also had taken up residence.
