Death of a motherSarah Riggs
after November 1850 (Age 39 years)
Note: Some show POD as Missouri City, Fort Bend Co, Texas, USA in NOV 1850. This city is now a southern suburb of Houston. It seems strange to have her enumerated in Bates Co, Missouri in NOV 1850 and just days later have her die hundreds of miles away. We have no information on any move. We think it more likely that she died in Missouri City, Clay Co, Missouri (Missouri City was originally named Atchison and formally adopted the name by the end of 1857).

They owned two 80 acre tracts of land in Henry County, patented in 1844, until they sold them in 1847. Sarah Coe, who may have been James' mother, live near them in Bates County and owned 80 acres of land, patented on the same date and in one of the same sections as James R. Coe's land in Henry County. Several of the children may have married in Bates County. When they left Bates County, when Order No. 11 was put into effect, they went to Saline County, where Jerusha married. The first record I find of them in Benton County, was in 1879, when they bought 94 acres of land north of Warsaw. James R. and Elizabeth are buried on that farm. James Andrew, Allen Brown and James R. (?) were married in Benton County."
