OBITUARY::::::::SUDDEN DEATH OF AN AGED CHICO CITIZEN April 16,907 L.L. Haynes, for thirty years a resident of Butte County, died suddenly today at his home on Cleveland Avenue. Mr. Ahynes has been feeling rather poorly for the past week, but it was not regarded as a serious illness. Today about 1 o'clock he was reclining on the bed reading, when he was suddenly stricken with heart failure and a moment later passed away. At the time of the death his only son C.L.Haynes, was in the house and a few moments later came uptown and notified the undertaking firm of Fetters & Williams of the sad occurence. Mr. Haynes, the deceased, was well known in the county, having for a long time resided at Cohassot. He is a native of Illinois and was 66 years and 10 months old.

Obituary - John William Haskins, for the last 20 years residing in Ashland,Ore., passed away at Merrill, Oregon, on Sunday, July 9, 1939, at 5 a.m. following an illness of four months. He was a native of Bates County,Missouri, and at the time of his death was ages 77 years 8 months and 5 days. Surviving are his wife, Mrs Sarah Haskins of Ashland, Oregon; four sons, Calvin N., J.Luther; Chester P.; and Belton M. [ed:this should be Velton], all of Merrill, Oregon. one daughter, Mrs M.L. Moore of Merrill, Oregon, and a half brother ,Charles Haynes of Chico, California. The remains rest in the Earl Whitlock Funeral Home, Pinee Street at Sixth, where friends may call after 1 p.m. Monday. Notice of funeral will appear in this issue of the paper.

HASKINS Dies, MERRILL Pioneer of state dies at Merrill apartment; formerly farmed here, Funeral services were held in Ashland Wednesday, July 11, for John WIlliam Haskins, father of the four well known Haskins brothers of Merrill and a daughter, Mrs.M.L.Moore, also of Merrill. Rev. James E. Morgan officiated at the services, which were held at the Littwiller Funeral Homes in Ashland, with commitment services and interment in the family plot in the Mt.View cemtery. The aged man who passed away in the Henry Anderson apartments, Merrill, after a lingering illness, was 77 years, 8 months and 5 days old. Surviving him are his wife, Mrs Sarah Haskins, who was at his bedside when he passed away; four sons, Calvin N.; J. Luther; Chester P.; and Velton M. Haskins all of Merrill; one daughter, Mrs M.L. Moore, also of Merrill,. and a half-brother, Charles Haynes of Chico, California, besides a number of grandchildren and great grandchild. The diseased(sic), a native of Bates County, Missouri, came west when a young man. He pioneer in three different states and for the past eight years has been a resident of Ashland. At one time he farmed for five years at Merrill but left there on account of the health of his first wife. His second marriage was to Mrs. Sarah Wright of Ashland, who survives him. In addition to the mourning relatives, the deceased leaves a host of friends in the Merrill vicinity as wll as inAshland and Grants Pass to regret his death.

Educated in Chico schools, Mr.Haynes had been a cattle man here for many years. On May 31,1906 he married Belva Griffith in Sacramento. He is survived by his wife, the following children: Mrs Clovis Stevenson of Palo Cedro,Clifford Haynes of Los Molinos, and Leslie Haynes of Chico; two grandchildren, Mrs Betty Meline, of Chico, and Mrs Donna Moore, of Alturas; five great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. A son, Menno, preceded him in death. Following the service tomorrow, interment will take place in Pine Creek Cemetery.
